Hostess cupcakes! Yum.

Actually, I don’t have any particular deep-seated hate for pastries and things that taste good.  Sometimes Hostess products actually sate the taste buds.

But constant consumption of this stuff that’s this over processed and advertised as fresh, oh!  It’s a shock to-me-spirit!

Oh!  Lies I say, lies! The IRONY!  Freshly baked goods come in individual wrappping in a colorful box that’s been sitting there for quite some time in stacks and stacks, maybe just hinting that there’s so much that the establishment needs to get rid of them?  I think not!

Yes, I may be bit eager about this subject.

But was simply looking to share the falsities of the capitalist industry and to show how they make things that last 10 years and don’t go moldy for us to eat {as freshly baked goods!} so that they can get some moolah.

But!  there are two sides to every story.  Hostess most definitely employs a good amount of well-intentioned people who need to work.

What I’m saying is, Let’s funnel this potential of the well-intentioned people into a well-intentioned, productive cause, and not the power of oily Twinkies.

I mean, there are recipes for making your own Twinkies.  {This dude Todd Wilbur, an awesome “food cloning” guy, has one recipe right here.}  And I bet you that someone who goes ahead and makes their own homemeade Twinkie-like pastries and sells them as part of their own local business will definitely be inflicting less harm on the environment than a corporate giant.

Yeah.  Believe it or not, my sister’s classmate suggested to composite things in composite bins when the class was discussing ways to live a “green day.”

And no one cared to tell this young lady that you compost organic waste, and you don’t composite it.  Whether this was because they themselves did not know the correct term or because they didn’t want to embarrass her is a shame really.  Because then, I ask myself, does no one take an interest in our planet to even know how to treat it well?

case 2:

my mother was attending a conference and met another woman.  they were eating off of compostable plates and utensils.  the lady remarks to my mother that, Oh, these are compostable, and that she and her colleagues buried some in the planter in their office, and the stuff actually began to disintegrate. wowzers!

From these flabbergasting moments, I now see that ignorance {about the basic things of the very thing we live on} is one damn roadblock.

How will movements, events, and actions to get the people of this Earth more conscious of Earth ever gain momentum if a great majority does not know what we are trying to accomplish?

So here’s the action plan:

Go out today, this afternoon, tonight.  And in whatever action of yours that has to do with the planet, teach.

No, don’t go tattling and nagging about people’s throats about being all goody-two-shoes about the planet.

‘C’us’ then everybody will just get annoyed and won’t want to listen.

But work towards getting the people you know more knowledgeable about the planet so that the amount of good actions for the earth can tenfold and the movement can gain momentum.

Because I’m positive that nothing’s going to improve if all I’m going to do, if all we’re going to do, is complain and do nothing about it.

Didn’t do sufficient research about Blackle and its true effects on the enviroment.

1.  It is NOT OWNED BY gOOGLE, only affiliated with it.  It’s a separate company that uses Google to power their search and they get moolah $$$ when more people use it, obviously.

Which is why they market it as a good thing without giving all the facts, aka GREENWASHING.  {Like brainwashing with the idea of “green” making “not green” things seem “green.”}

This brings me to:

2)  Blackle only saves energy with the OLD, HUNKY-CHUNKY COMPUTER MONITORS.  On these monitors, the Red, Green, and Blue lights behind the screen turn completely off, using the most minimal amount of energy to power the color on the screen.

HOWEVER,
with the new schnazzy LCD computer monitors USE MORE ENERGY WITH BLACKLE!!  In order to color the screen black, the LCD monitor must use just a timy bit more energy to make the sscreen look black.  LCDs also have a backlight.

I’ll get you the source of this info to you soon.  I’m not pulling this out of my butt–I’m about honest info.  Really.  Got this from an uncle and shall proceed to interrogate him on the validity of his claims.  He is a genius,  though.

Hence the title “Black it Up to Green it Up”.

It only takes a few seconds–go to the Start Menu, go to Settings, and select your computer’s control panel.  Open it and select the Display icon.  A window with tabs will show up. 

Click the desktop tab and set the color to black.  Then click the screen saver tab and set your screen saver to black as well, and tell your computer to go to sleep after 4 minutes of inactivity or so to save even more leeching energy.

Yes. you might have to forego your awesomely radical color-blasted background, but hey, I think it’s OK if it means helping our planet.

I mean, look at this crazy weather we’re having.  And there’s a drought in my area.  Not interested in seeing any of this worsen.  I like normal weather.  Better for the sweat glands and veggies.

{Google has also a created an energy-saving search page:  Blackle.com.  It’s the exact same as the regular Google search page, only black.  So you don’t lose any special features when you switch–another easy, convenient change towards bettering the environment.}

Ok.

I believe the environment to be a glorious thing, and I love it.
No, I’m not radical and eat only grass and live in a burlap sack. And I’m not following a green trend because , well, like, green is, like, the new black, like duh! Yeah!

I believe everybody has their good intentions when doing good for the planet. And it’s great that a conciousness for the planet that we live on is gaining momentum.

However, there’s still a whole world out there that needs to be changed, to be revolutionized in “green” thought.

Hold on!

This blog is not intended to be be some radical crazy Stalin-communist-comrade thing that inspires violent revolution on behalf of the trees of this world.

RAther, I’m interested in educating people on how to re-incorporate “green” and essentially, a consciousness for Earth and respect for nature back into their lives. Everyday people. Not specifically rich people, poor people, fireman or chief. If the planet is going to change for the better, everyone plays a part.

Thus, this blog will be compromised of logical, feasible ways to teach how to love the Earth. {Like IKEA does with furniture. I love that place.} There may be some propositions, ones that may even not be too feasible, but may still motivate and tingle people to do something for this thing we live on.

I want to make the topic of EArth engaging, enthralling, so that anyone can become enthralled with our planet as well.

Like how Peter the Great of Russia was enthralled with ships as a kid. He ended up building an entire fleet of them. Life-sized, not toys.

ALso, NOtice {10 lines up that starts with “RAther”} I say I want to educate. I’m big on education. I firmly believe that through educating, through learning, people get to know. They become informed. They get smarter and in-tuned with the world around them and can question the work around them , at that. They are taught to think!

And if people are taught about the Earth, if someone–a teacher, a parent, a mentor–engages them in the subject matter, they can now think of how to make our Earth more sustainable, more ecological, more natural.

I also believe that getting the facts out about Earth-things and educated about all the hullabaloo is a really big component in being a good citizen of the EArth.

Just because companies’ foods are organic, does that mean the food is good for you? Is buying from them honestly making a difference? Or are the organics shipped from Brazil? The company may have an 8 year old grow the stuff. Kids could get asthma because of all that pollution that results from the gas used to transport that organic mango sitting there in the store on a cold January morning.

Just a thought.

It’s when I get this rush of ideas going and pumping and I’m like, This is awesome, great content for blogging, and then I go upstairs to the computer, and I wait for the computer to load {8 min} and I’m still like, Yeah, this is great, and I’m all exited, and then I get logged on, and I lost my mojo. My train of thought becomes derailed.

Yeah.

That kind of happened just now, and that’s actually the reason I had a hardly ever blogged earlier.

I need a portable stenographer. Or a mind recorder. Or maybe just a better memory, because I don’t think I’ll ever get the previous two.

And along with a better memory, I should improve my focus.

I actually like focus. It gets me places, and I’m better at focus than memory, for sure.

So I guess, with this focus in place of my memory, I’ll recount to you my thoughts, ideas , the little revelations about, and plans for this here little puppy called Earth.

JAmie Oliver is this fantastic British Chef I found out about 2 years ago on an out-of-country trip.

But he does not conduct a typical cooking show. He teaches, as in cooks in a way that leaves you feeling, hey that looked cool and I want to try cooking.  He makes cooking seem fun and intriguing.

And he cooks with the environment in mind.  He has his own garden, for goodness’ sake!

My mouth was agape after I saw him simply step outside and pick his own food.  Dude!  AWesome.

He emphasizes local ingredients, good-quality food, and fair treatment of animals, like the chickens that we eat.

But he’s not high-falutin, yuppy, and all uppity about getting and eating fresh veg and good food.  He makes cooking with quality food a down-to-earth concept, not something for rich people, and a concept that every person should be able to practice.

He’s started programs to get the people of the UK eating healthier and better.  He’s gotten awarded by parliament for all he’s done.

And the environment is tied into everything he does.

His new series is Jamie at Home, but he’s also famous for his first series the Naked Chef.

No, he is not naked while he cooks.  It’s named that because he’s stripping cooking down to its bare essentials.

Check him out.  He’s da bomb.

I’ve been visiting this blog for the past year, and
I think it’s a great example for many bloggers to follow and even a great blog to just awe at.
And gape at the wonderful pictures.

and like I said above, it has amazing pictures.

Bea is the author.  She’s

French and cooks amazing little dishes, oftentimes rustic.  She grows her own garden too, I think.  That’s always a plus for me.

The reason I post about it is because it has to do with food, and intriguing people with food, gettin gpeople interested in food.

I think it’s not only a great blog to look at, but a great blog to get people wanting to get involved with what they eat and putting time and care into what they eat.

Would just like to do my part in celebrating this momentous event.

As of tomorrow, January 20, 2009, Barack Obama will become the president of the United States of America.

The world will have a new leader, a new light, a new hope.

His inauguration represents the new thought, open-mindedness, and progress.

Progress from the discrimination and subjugation of people all around the world.  Progress regarding the American approach to the world’s problems.  Progress in doing good–for people and the planet.

Will definitely be able to do more for the environment.

This is an incredible point in history.

I myself never realized the magnitude of this until just three days ago, but now I do realize, and I hope to share this awesomeness with you all.

Mr. President, I wish you the best in these years to come.  I, as well as many others, are looking forward to them.
